Should I get a “complete curriculum” from one publisher for my student, or should I get the various subjects from different publishers?
Description of curriculum publishers
A number of publishers, like BJUP, Alpha Omega Publications, and Abeka, make and sell curricula for all subjects for each grade level, enabling you to obtain a “complete curriculum” of one brand/publisher. Some homeschool publishers make and sell curricula for some subjects and then sell curricula made by a different publisher for the other subjects, so that you are able to buy a “complete curriculum” from them. Other publishers make and sell curricula for one subject or some subjects; these are often known as excellent programs in their areas of specialty (e.g., Saxon Math).
Ways to get a complete curriculum for your student
- Buy every subject from one brand/publisher only. This is like getting an entire outfit for your child — shirt, jeans, jacket, socks, shoes — by choosing the same brand for each item.
- Buy each subject from the brand you decide is the best fit for you, your student, and your budget. This usually requires spending a bit more time looking at the options and comparing programs within each subject, which is what the vast majority of our customers do. By comparing a few options within each subject, you will have created your own customized “complete curriculum,” and you’re more likely to end up with something suitable for you.
